happy new year

So our big giant family Christmas is over. We drove our hyper active screaming losing it children home at 8 last night. They were asleep in the car, heads bent over their pillow pets, by approximately 8:08.

First we had to stop back at the farmhouse for my giant coffee mug, which I had left Christmas day (after more than one cup of coffee spiked with Baileys) because, as I told dada "I will be super crabby tomorrow morning if I cant find it" to which little man started crying at - "Dad! We HAVE to find it. I DONT WANT MAMA TO BE CRABBY WHEN WE WAKE UP!"

Sigh.

Little miss is now screaming at me at the top of her little lungs. "MOMMY I WANT PRESENTS TO OPEN! NOOOOOOOOOOOOW!"

Sigh.

It was a lovely week. But now, now the real work of winter begins. A new year. A new baby. Who is no longer a newborn. And who has taken to sleeping in until 10 or 11. (!!)

Again, I am feeling the need to organize the CRAP out of my house. Serious.
1) basement clutter
2) the storage room
3) clothes
4) the craft closet (eek!)
5) random boxes which should be reorganized before we move (hopefully this spring)
6) excess toys

And to organize life a bit more too.
1) cooking more
2) meal plans
3) more real "schooling" efforts on my part
4) less TV
5) less me crafting, more child-friendly projects

Ack.

More coffee first.

And hey, happy new year to all you  mommies and daddies and aunties and grandmas and friends of June and all who are a part of this collective effort at mommying, child rearing. One thing I so appreciate about family gatherings. All the people who love my kids to death and will help swing baby to sleep in the carseat while mama tries to wrestle little miss into her shoes or holds baby for an hour so I can shower and just BE. I LOVE YOU ALL.

And to all of you...I hope its a good year, filled with sticky hugs and sweet smiles from the little ones in your loves and happy days of sunshine and organizing and crafting (or whatever floats your boat) and well, giant mugs of coffee to get it all done. HA.

christmas craftiness ho ho ho

So, I had planned a series of posts on all these great things I have crafted this Christmas (or partially as the case may be) but...it seems a few photos is all you are gonna get. Geez, slacker mama (or cheese, as little miss says lately...as in "Oh CHEESE its cold out!" ha ha ha!)
merry christmas from our little family...dada is in the glasses
and, of special note, my hair...medusa-esque snakes rising from my head.
HA HA HA.

Our little family is soo happy and excited for Christmas. We are getting the kiddos a kitchen to play with (From Ikea, though I wish we could do one of those awesome handmade all wood ones...although I don't know, if I had the cash even,  could I ever spend $350+ on a play thing??) In any case, they spent a full morning playing restaurant this week (including locking up and cleaning, so cute) so I am psyched to give it to them.

Lots of gift wrapping and merry making to be done, all in our little cozy (crowded?) living room. We are excited. And then we move on to the big family celebration...all 20+ of us. I hope I keep it together, keep the overwhelmed tendency that gets me, even on a normal year, all bottled up nice and tight. I AM excited to see everyone, have our fun traditions, see the joy in the kids as we are all together. That is what I am focusing on, and you know, that one Gift of Love that has given me this little house o' blessings.

Have yourselves a Merry Little Christmas. Let your hearts be light!

Christmas crafting with kiddies

Last year, if you recall, I dedicated my energies to coming up with meaningful crafts for my kiddos to engage in (like, er, Christmas dragons? read here and here and here and here for more) this year...eh. Umm. I have tried. That is good enough for this year. You know?

Here are some of our efforts.

little man insisted on decorating his castle :)

Paper snowflakes, a big hit. I tried to look up how to cut out pretty pretty snowflakes on Pinterest this year but...it involved printing out instructions, cutting out templates, tracing and copying and OH HEAVENS ITS JUST A PAPER SNOWFLAKE. So, we just hacked away. The results are pretty and cheerful though and little man LOVED doing this, for like an hour!

Our other effort. Painting a Christmas tree with finger paint handprints. Again with the finger paints. Five minutes prep. Twenty minutes painting. Thirty minutes cleaning up, which included chasing little miss around trying to get the paints back from her, chiding her for an hour about not touching the painting and changing her outfit approximately three times.

little man's follow up painting. which he hung by his castle. HA.

little miss's painting. looks like an operating table. the patient did not survive.
ew. it got thrown away.

notice the shirtless girl. egads.

obligatory baby photo. generally i am not a fan of these baby seat things but...
one does what one must do to say, do dishes, etc. she likes it because she can
chew on that red blanket. it cracks me up how tiny she looks on the floor.
must. get. this. thing. in. my. mouth.
