a rainy day

A rainy day is a nice thing, every now and then. I am again blogging one-handed. Kiddies are in the bedroom playing fort in their bunkbeds. Perhaps the rain has stopped? It was coming in buckets for awhile, washing away the strange cool humidity in the air, hopefully the pollen too. I have strangely developewd allergies this spring, resulting in splitting, nonstop headaches. I have one now, again, and its making me a tad incoherent.

We have nearly made it through our week tv-free. I relented last night with headache settling in again, dada at second job, and a strong desire for pizza. We watched Princess Bride, not entirely fit for five and three year olds, at all. We basically watched it in fast forward, stopping to watch the sparring scenes. My boy loves a good sword fight.

I wish/hope our tv consumption was like this, I hope to make it so. A video here and there. I also havent indulged at all. Huge for me, Dada and I have sat up talking several nights, so much better than blankly staring at old episodes of Big Bang Theory, the one show we can readily agree on.

Anyway. My most blandest post ever, right? Seriously these headaches are sucking the life out of me.

Some keys for less tv, if you are hoping to break off too. (that doesnt make sense does it?)
=get out a forgotten toy, get down on your knees and play with it for awhile, oh mom likes puuting together a train set? me too!
=unplug the tv
=move activity into another room
=make fresh playdough (i have a great recipe on here somewhere)
=spider web-ify a room. the tv room is currently a tangled mess of string
=kiddie friendly crafts, like ones they can really do. we painted penne noodles yesterday and strung them onto a necklace.
=pull out books and sort by topic. My mom just gave me two boxes full of homeschool/educational books from her collection of 20 plus years of homeschooling. Sooooo amazing! i now have a nature book shelf, animal book shelf, classics and poetry, history, and languages, all for a kiddie audience.

Okay I am even boring myself with this post, dont hold it against me though. Lets blame it on the one-handed-ness and the headache and try again tomorrow, shall we?

  1. I just found your blog, and I wanted to say that I really enjoyed this post. I, too, try to stay away from tv. I say my kids average about 30 minutes a day. The easiest way for me to avoid it is to get out of the house in the mornings. Either that or get out a craft.

Anyway, I liked your post, and you have a new follower :-)
